I Miss That Lady - Country crossover

Farrell Jackson (09/03/08 12:45:53)   Tag: I Miss That Lady - Dave Mercer lead vocal
I Miss That Lady - Country crossover This is a song I wrote and recorded in 2002 and it's been sitting in a file since then. I stumbled across it today and thought I would post it up at The Mix.

I don't write many country type songs but sometimes they just happen.

I originally wrote this one as a pop song thinking I would try shopping it to one of the boy bands at the time. It's first title was I Miss That Girl :o) No luck there so I swayed it more toward country/crossover and that's how I produced it but still no luck :o(

I asked my long time bandmate, Dave Mercer, to sing the lead on this because he has the perfect voice for this genre. He agreed and he did an excellent performance on it.

I hope you enjoy it.

British 1960's Pop Rock

Farrell Jackson (08/11/08 12:40:32)   Tag: Help Me Girl - The Animals
British 1960's Pop Rock I've always loved that 1960's  British Rock Pop sound and this song has it all. From the catchy beat to the chorus that drops from a major to a minor chord with the lovely harmonies. So I recorded one.

I tried my best  to get that Farfisa or Vox Continental organ sound that the Animals were famous for. Plus, I've kept it close to the original but I taken some liberties here and there with it, especially with the guitars.

I hope you enjoy it as much as I did recording it and if you remember it, sing along!.

Wow! Two blogs in two days....very unusual for me!

Farrell Jackson (07/14/08 11:14:54)   Tag: New song, Sancturay Bay
Wow! Two blogs in two days....very unusual for me!

Finally, a new song! I've had some recent recording equipment failures which put a kink in my recording momentum....but I'm back in business!

I wrote this song two years ago and layed down the initial tracks then and there it sat for two years....until this past weekend. I came up with the lyric idea while hiking the Stanislaus River canyon gorge with my wife. It's near my home,  which is in the heart of California's 1849 gold rush area. As we walked I could invision a 49er minor heading with his pack mule to one of the digging sites so I wrote what I imagined.

I used some sound effects to help the visual aspects of the song. I don't know if I've achieved it or not but I'm hoping the listener can hear, see, feel, and smell the song. Regardless it was fun to experiment. That's what it's all about with home studios.....you can do what you want, take as long as you want, and have fun doing it, lol!

It's Americana, which means anything goes :o) I hope you enjoy it!

Old Mix and New Mix. Goodbye (collab with Loren Risker)

Old Mix and New Mix. Goodbye (collab with Loren Risker)

Goodbye

This was an instrumental that Loren had posted at the old mix a few years ago. The lyric copyright date is 12-16-05, man that makes us sound old, lol! As we all do from time to time, once I listened to Loren's beautiful music I  heard this melody. Being in a melancholy mood I scribbled this sad lyric and contacted Loren for permission to add it to his instrumentation. To my pleasure he said yes and I did a version that was posted at the old mix.

While shifting through some old files I came across it again and remembered how well I liked this sad song. So today I put some additional mastering touches on it and thought it would be good to post it at the new mixposure!

Loren Risker - songwriter, musical idea, and instrumentation.

Farrell Jackson - Lyric, vocal, and acoustic guitar solo fill

We hope enjoy it!

IMS Radio

Farrell Jackson (06/14/08 08:23:19)   Tag: First time to tune in

Hi all. If you haven't tuned in yet to IMS Radio, you should give it a go. Last night was my first adventure there with Mike-K at the helm. Coupled with the chat room, it was a lot of fun listening and partcipating in the easy as it goes atmosphere. There were a lot of familar names to chat with or just say hi. To my surprise Mike-K even dialed up one of my songs, "Don't Take It Slow", while I was there. It's definitely a place worth visiting and I'll be back without a doubt! Give it a try, you'll like it!

Updated Train To Normal

Farrell Jackson (04/14/08 10:14:43)   Tag: Real drums added
Updated Train To Normal Hi all. I've just updated my song Train To Normal with the addition of real drums. My good friend Frank Northcutt has graciously played them for me. At the very end of the song as it picks up speed, giving the impression of a train heading off into the distance, Frank did and excellent job of keeping the drums up with the rest of the music as it randomly gains speed. That couldn't have been easy. The drums are purposely mixed low as they are playing a supportive but very important part in the song. Thanks Frank!

Bodie Town - Montage

Farrell Jackson (04/07/08 13:55:24)   Tag: Video
I just uploaded a slide/video of the ghost town, Bodie Ca. I visted there a few years ago and on returning home, I wrote a song about the experience called Bodie Town. A good friend, Pinedog (Charlie), asked to use it as the soundtrack for a slide montage of Bodie. Naturally I said yes. The sample rate is low so the sound quality suffers but you might enjoy it anyway. It's in my video section or here: http://youtube.com/watch?v=5HQPgK-FGsM
