Upon listening to this, you make me want to go out and buy a 12 string! Lovely chord progression. Do I hear a mandolin in there? Lot's of drive and emotion behind this piece and it's connecting with me. That's what it's all about.
|
 |
Oh yes. Some gorgeous playing here. A real edgy feeling to this track. Love the layering.
Love, Phil

Hi Holley, I'm enjoying your playing. Nice slide on the guitar chords. The 2 sets of strings sound very cool together. Some great progressions in there to, gives a downbeat to it. 12 strings are such wonderful and full sounding instruments, a joy to listen to...

 |
Love the tune Excellent feel to the song overall. 12 strings sounding great ..........Nice Listen

Wonderful tune again Holley. Always love that 12-guitar sound, bright & expressive, esp. along with a mandolin, --it's a striking sound, an instrument which I should take out more often. I learned the staccato well on guitar after having played the mandolin...really helped. Ever heard of a mandocello. They're long as a guitar -lower mandolin sound, heavier strings. Anyhow I really like this tune. GREAT! Keep going Holley.

Thanks Guys! I just threw it together last night. Its actually 12 string in drop tuning with a mandolin duo on the upper notes. I was debating whether or not to throw in a jazz fiddle part or vocals or would that be too much? I do agree I need go back in and clean it up a bit.
|
 |
I really like the overall sound on this one, good playing here and song really is a pleasent journey. I agree the mix needs work but very easy to correct. I could help but get an old Led Zeppelin vibe here, and thought man how good would a voilin sond soloing over this...
Overall I really enjoyed the track, kept me interested through the entire song.
|
 |
Nice indie feel to the start of this one - agree with the earlier comment that the drums could come up further in the mix, they sound a little lost in the back there, but there's some good blending of those guitars and some interesting chords constructed between the different parts. Thanks! Chris
|
 |
This is a nice effort, solid feel to the backing, and some expressive phrasing from the 12 string lead lines. Enjoyed this well done

Nice easy listening tune with some really nice guitar work, and the kick on the drums is sounding great. Personally I would bring the guitar down 2 or 3db and raise the drums 2 or 3db; but that's only my opinion, it sounds great as it is.

Sorry Holley. I meant to say '12' string in my previous post, not '2'...
|
 |
Holley,
If I may ask, what make and model is the 2 string? Nice full sound and tone you have going on here! Are you you using two mics? A stunning piece!!
|
 |
You know I love this tune. It lives on my i-pod

Holley, this is a sweet, harmonic acoustic piece. Oh yeah, vocals would be really nice on this... but it is just beautiful standing alone.
You're a very talented woman. Two thumbs up!! Enjoyed it very much!

Great piece Holley. Has a little Zep feel to it. Ever thought of adding vocals? This flows very nicely. Great tune.

Hello Holley. What a beautiful flow you create with that guitar. This song puts me in the mood I used to get in 30 years ago listening to Crosby Stills and Nash. Beautiful sounds.

Ah, this recording is superb Holley. The 12 string tone and ring is gorgeous as is your playing. Nothing more magical than the mixture of chords and arps your doing on a 12er. I could never play a 12 this cleanly. Love your progressions and touch. It's all very good! ~Blake
P.S. Hey welcome to iMS!

Hi, found your page by pure chance, as a user of an echo 12 string myself, both recording and live I can appreciate the effort that goes into using one. You do it extremely well. This is a great piece, and well performed. all the best
|
 |
I like the flow of this one-- different from the first two, and just as good. I get all kinds of imagery listening to this. I could listen to you play that guitar all day. What (guitar) are you playing there?

A lonesome song that can draw you in and make your mind wander. I get it.
Nice!
|
 |
You can certainly play a 12 string, picking one of those takes some serious effort. I know from doing it myself. The added violin feels in this piece add an depth that draws you further into it. You have a really great piece of work here, very well done

Wow. I love this. It reminds me a bit of some of my favourite Gary Numan stuff. Would you believe this is the kind of thing I used to do before I learned to play guitar? Cool. Wish I could Download it.

Not exactly what I had in mind for "new age", but despite that, I like the feel of the tune... takes the listener to a new plane, & I like the organisms you're working with... nice keyboard sound. I give this a HIGHLY RECOMMENDED for those who like to fly as they listen

Hi Holley...
I really liked this piece! Nice keyboard sounds! Kewl flute, too.

Hey Holley, this is a superb track. Almost hypnotic! I like it so much, I downloaded it for my next show this coming weekend! Very nice indeed!
Cheers,

I find this very intense and very interesting......and I really loved the flute like instrument floating above the theme. That little bit gave it an airy type feeling, like a small bird...flying through the woods.....I like this track. REAL Nice work!! :-)

This is a most unique style, showing Holley's eclectic sound, not to be just pinned to an acoustic. Listening to other tunes, one would be some what surprised, however a neat atmosphere is created in this ambient fusion of a tune, which shows much creativity...it's has a very cool motion of a groove, humming away into another realm.
I'm easily altered away pleasantly. EXCELLENT composition.

Sorry, it should be "This is one thing I CAN'T do". Sorry for the typo error.

Being truthful to your music is one most importance thing in music making. I found this passion here. Vocals are definitely outstanding and soothing. Of course, not forgetting the supporting acoustic rendition, beautifully executed. Give in all your passion, Holley you have nothing to loss, you have a fabulous voice. This is one thing I can do.

I agree with TCP, this tune shows the essence of you; you have such alovely vocal; the harmonies are outstanding, so lovey emotvely sweet & sullen; a diacotomy of a perception. Your wonderful 12 string signature, but you won't be pinned to any one thing, much versatility. Yes, as all seem to say; more tunes with singing is an good opinion to new songs, however it's in you dwhatever comes out in style that's the natural course; it will be lovely.
This song is well mixed; like the mandolin touch; Yes, an earlier Joni Michell is a good comparison. EXCELENT tune Holley.****
Worth many listens. You've got the genuine touch. -Your friend. -Vesa.

So what's Holley up to?? Well, I don't recall hearing your voice before...but now that I'm listening to it...you most definitely deserve to be on ALOT more songs. Absolutly love the mix of your very silky voice with your 12er. Very beautiful vocal texture and delivery. On target...quite a bit like Joni Mitchell. Excellent promise this has Holley. You are sounding great! ~Blake

Listening to this song is without question one of the best 4 minutes and 10 sesonds I have spent in a long time!!!!! A great song, wonderfuul vocals and harmonies and I love the 12 string. You have inspired me to use mine more often!!!!
I'll be back for lots more listens.
Thanks,
Jeff

Hooly ,
Fabulous ideas here the guitar playing is great and the vocal is also very nice.
Given the right production toouches there could be a gem inside this.
You have a good voice get yourself into a studio where you'll get that voice captured completely.
Until then you will never know work in progress or not !
Potentially delightful.

man I love your sound sound. acoustic sounds very sweet. Vocals sound very good. Do not take this the wrong way, but you should have venuestudio aka Kent remix this for you. I think you would be blown away at the sound difference. I know I was impressed with the mix he did on the song I did with Carol Douglas' lyrics. Might want to give it a shot. My next tune is going his way lol. For free how can you go wrong? :)
Welcome to iMS!!

Holly your acoustic sounds great and your singing is outstanding.

You have a voice with incredible potential. This is a nice song but I felt that the guitar may have over powered it slightly. I'll be paying your page a visit. well done
|
 |
Your vocals are just beautiful. I really enjoyed the contrast between the 12 string and your gorgeous singing.

Great Holley. Love the title. There's that signature style here with that wonderful bright sparkling guitar. Lovely solid vocals. Reminds me, can't help it, likely said it before, of Joni Mitchell, but it's all you. Fine lyrics; like the theme story, brings visions. Lovely sound, fine mix & balance in this good production. The guitar feels like waves on the water when it's just the guitar.Great!
EXCELLENT. -It's a fave. -Vesa. So nice to hear you again.

Holley, this is a fabulous song. Mel writes some of the most awesome lyrics and you made the perfect music and melody for those words. I just love the twelve string sound in this song.

I choose to review this track coz I wrote one with the same title but mine was "Grand Canyon" instead. I love those strings, very passionate and mystical in the mixing. I didn't hear any layering work here, maybe you can consider adding it.

Like that harmonics on your 12-string -so kool...you sure know how to make a guitar sound so full of life, good use of space. pausing, fine variations in your strumming emphasis and such...nice picking and pulling out what the guitar can do,with genuine focus on the sound, like the effects, sounds a bit like an echo, or/and reverb, sustain...most enjoyable to listen to an ambient genre somewhat, new age, fusion..
EXCELLENT. You certainly have a lovely way to shape the sound on that guitar. A bit of Leo Kottke in there. Meditative also...it does alter the senses nicely. Thanks.
