Hey Frank, long time no see ... well read ;-)
'Bring Me Back' is still doin' it for me! I haven't heard it for a long time now, it seems - and yes, I still love it. Superb performances all over; man that bass is beautiful. Lots of air and a great mix. Your voice is solid and complements this song wonderfully.
Glad I bumped into you in here - great place.
Heinz.

Okay I can't really say I've heard a whole lot of Steely Dan but if RG syas thats in there I'll take his word for it.
For me this is just totalling relaxing storytelling in musical form. The vocal performance/presentation is great .It has a warmness too it that is often lacking in music nowadays. In fact the whole mix is warm deep bass tone sitting nicely ounching slightly without making its presence overbearing. The guitar is very expressive and very very well played throughout. The acoustic is especially welcome and I'm really impresssed with the picked lines/phrases.They are beautifully played and recorded equally well...clear and rounded with just the softest hint of effect coming through.I've actually had to listen to this twice as I type because I'm afriad i may have missed something and because most of all i wanted to listen agian:
the little vocal lifts for the "you -you lift me up"line is excellent.A great little phrase performed really nicely.
I think what this needs to take up a notch is a gentle string accompanying the chorus and also filling the space a little more....the end could have a broad string rising up from behind the guitar solo part......really building the mood. But thats probably not the feel you were going for or you'd have already put that kinda thing in here.
A sincere track with depth and plenty of character really neat guitar riffs
Sly

Bass really compliments the song! I thought you might pick it up after the bridge ,but it sorts of just ffffades away. Really sweet song looking for a fitting ending. Good work!

Rob nailed it, nice Steely Dan feel to this. All it would need is a little vocal harmony! Great song, really well done!

Outstanding piece and outstanding performance. Very nice classical Spanish guitar piece. Sounds like Tarrega educated in the 21st century, lol... Seriously, very delightful piece. Top marks!

I've always regretted my lack of self discipline in not pursuing classical guitar and the beauty of this piece make those regrets even more bitter. Beautifully composed and performed. A truly lovely piece of work. Congrats. I dips me lid to ya.
Cheers

ohhh, this has that wonderful carefree sound of the 70`s...Let me just sit back and groove, I know instantly there`ll be no "jarring" edges here...Wow, what a surprise around 2.10 mins in...That was unexpected, very smooth and tastefully done...Much enjoyed...
Peace n Love Mags xx :-)

hello brother.. you also remind me of our melodic master here.. chrickon.. that was a sweetly intelligent solo there.. yes.. indeed.. it's lovely.. and the fretless/acoustic coda section is awesomely beautiful.. and a nice last sound bow.. applause.. excellent.. thank you.. cheers.. :-)

Brian, I wrote this tune and then later also thought it sounded like a Carlton tune. So I searched thru my Carlton CDs and yep the main theme of the A section is a lot like Nightcrawler as you mentioned (although the B and C section is nothing like Nightcrawler). So here's the comparison that I came up with and thought mine was different enough, after all we all have our influences:
Larry's main motif for Nightcrawler: notes = B A G# F# E A G# ; B A E F# G# A G#
My main motif: notes = B G(natural) F# E C# F# E ; F# E C# B C# B
So comparing melody notes I thought it was significantly different. However the rhythm of the melody is very similar. All I can say is it must have stuck in my subcouncious and came back out later mutated without me being aware of it.

 |
Definitely has that Larry Carlton - Lee Ritenour feel. Great track........great flow....nice groove.......Super Listen!!! LOVED the bass tone thru the ending :-)

Oops ... the melody sure sounds like Nightcrawler to me. Maybe you could change it a little so it couldn't be recognized?

Really nice tune. in a lot of ways it reminds me of Larry Carlton like he played on his "On Higher Ground" CD. Nice change at 2:20 setting up that pretty ending.

I met a Goldie once. Goldie Hawn. No ****! She came in through my inspecyion line at Logan Airport wheile I was still working immigration there. Cool girl and a lot of fun.
But, alas, I see you have written a love instrumental to a dog. C'est la vie.
But I absolutely love this song. Great tones, super guitar work -- nice producrtion -- bouncy, alive. Great groove. I could listen to stuff like this all day.

Loved it. Ofen think the feeling of a song is in the chords, and they were lovely. Simple and delicate.

Very short but very sweet.

Excellent! Instant favorite. Vaguely reminiscent of Leo Brower's early pieces. Just like Rapster said, classical and modern at the same time. And exquisitely beautiful.

love your classical guitar music brother.. this is classical and modern at the same time..
the melodies and settings of the melody are just lovely.. the broad middle part is an especially
nice contrast to the more delicate first part.. i only could wish for more.. beautiful piece.. cheers..

This is a really well written song. And some of the touches in the backing tracks have some really deft touches a la Steely Dan. Love the sound of the guitar and there's some lovely work going on with the piano. So please accept what follows as intended as constructive ....I'm not trying to put his track down at all. If I didn't like it I would have ignored it.
The vocals don't do it justice. Which is bizarre because the singer's got a wonderful sounging voice. I personally think that it's a key problem. You're singing in a high key and the voice is straining. It's hitting it's pitch, but it doesn't seem to be the right pitch. Maybe I'm off on a tangent. But I can hear a beautiful chord progression played expertly, and a melody that is really good, via a good voice but they're not quite together. Donning my "know it all hat" I'd suggest maybe dropping the key by 1-3 semitones. As I hope I've made clear the singer's got a great voice and the song has huge potential. But in my view it's not quite realising it. But I want to hear more. The potential in this track is arguably unlimited.

Third review, so. I like it a lot, especially melody and guitar. The mix is very smooth and equilibrated, even if I would have enjoyed a closer vocal. Very, very nice tune anyway.
|
 |
Yeah I really got into this one...was typing a blog while listening and I had to stop.
This is very well put together and performed.
|
 |
Hmmm ... no reviews? Pretty decent little tune here. I especially like the acoustic guitar playing and the quality of their recordings. I quite liked this. Nice use of empty space here and there, too.

I'm not really to concerned whether this would be better on a guitar as opposed to the piano. You played it supremely well. it's an excellent piece irrespective of the instrument. very well done
|
 |
Yeah this is outstanding classical music, love those chord progressions. And yes it would sound incredibly good on nylon strings
|
 |
Nice -- in fact it could have been longer!
|
 |
Wow! Very good! If Mayo sounds influenced by Spanish guitar traditions, this one looks German. Weiss, maybe even Bach... Can't wait to hear it oerformed on the guitar. Marvelous piece!
