I am the first time on your site, always looking for good music for my radio-show in Germany. Now what an unluck: Your song is not free for download. But it is so great in instrumentation and the vocals are so great. Very clear recorded and clean arranged. If it could be possible and you could send me the song for the listener in Germany then please send me In Time to my email: izp@serious-music.net, it would like to be great. The show is tomorrow and I make public a blog with the links and so on. In hope ... Best wishes from Serious-Music.

This is just beautiful, Ian. I, too, can feel the builing passion-- and how it all spreads out like ripples in the water. The accompanying instrumental background is a perfect frame for the lovely piano music. This is a marvelous performance, and I loved the soft closeure at the end. Gina/WHP

Ian... It is a pleasure to listen to you outside of the seniors enviroment, where I had always read all yuor thoughts on production etcetera, but due to the hostility of the seniors, always stayed quiet, content to read. This is a beautifuly polished song mate. From the gentle opening to the whole band sound kicking. Each instrument given it's room and crystal clear. Excellent piano work I must say,and the lead is likewise. But I think what draws me most is the overall feel and sound of the piece. It feels fresh, alive, vibrant. Each element has been given all it needs to work, and as is so often the case, hard work really does pay off. The second lead section, where power and sustain is given to the guitar, simply flies. Beautiful tone and a feeling fo working towards a creshendo, with those synth arps just suddenly appearing, that was a touch of brilliance IMHO. Then the subtlest of releases as the guitar kind of just ever so slightly relaxed, and then the song slid effortlessly into the mellow. Nice touches of FX as well by the way. Bass drum telling of a higher peak to be climbed, and the guitar and bass in this end section is beautiful, nice to hear the bass being used to add that extra punch, that extra level of sound. The last sustaining note was simply perfect. And in conclusion,I don't believe I have heard a better song for a LONG time mate, that was....perfection. Hats off to a REAL composer. Nigel.

You were kind enough to grace my page Ian. I'm returning the favor. My son's name is Ian by the way...I always liked it... Not that you need the favor returned. Powerful song indeed. Piano and guitar compliment each other well. Both voices speak clearly to each other... Very nice indeed...

I love this track. Your guitar soars effortlessly above a solid bed of understated yet ever so tasteful bass and drums. The piano is definetly a nice counter to your guitar playing. Congratulation on a nice track!

Hey Ian; Just have to love that piano; ever so brilliant and vibrant; and still mellow. Cool addition and contrast with the soaring guitar at the start. Great rock progression; most tasteful arranging and overall sound. Love the production. Very well placed instruments, working well together. A solid fave piece of music. Well done. Superb. Thanks for the fave tune...and again that piano is so well played as is the guitar. -Vesa.

Ok Ian....you've got me hooked with your 2nd tune. Emotional and beautiful song architecture that flows, man it flows! As a songwriter/producer and a novice engineer I'm going to say I see no flaws at all with your production job either. The song captures me. I love the piano and guitar interplay. Impressive my friend...all the way around!!!!!!!! Blake

I´VE GOT SAY, I LISTENED TO YOUR FIRST TUNE, AND WASN?T IMPRESSED AT ALL. SOUNDED LIKE YOUR GUITAR WAS OUT OF TUNE. BUT THIS TUNE IS GREAT. SIMPLE, BUT BEAUTIFUL PIANO MELODY, AND THE GUITAR IS SMOKIN ON THIS. NICE USE OF THE ARPEGGIO SYNTH AS WELL, AND THE DRUMS AND BASS ARE SIMPLE AND SOLID AND DRIVE IT ALONG NICELY. MIX AND PRODUCTION ARE PRETTY GOOD. I´M THINKING THE PIANO MIGHT BE A TOUCH TOO LOUD, IT DOMINATES OVER THE ENTIRE TRACK. BUT IT IS THE MAIN MELODY, SO MAYBE YOU WANT IT THAT WAY?! ANYWAY, NICE TRACK.

Great arrangement. All the instruments are well blended together. The style is highly typical of a Chinese orchestral piece. I could hear the use of a Chinese flute somewhere. Great job.

This is nice, simple a theme which is well manipulated. The feel reminds me slightly more of Andean music as opposed to Oriental. But I'll not put a good piece down, great work enjoyed this one

Some of the best music you can make IMO has a selection Asian instruments and vibes. I love the fact you are not ashamed to show the power of your music through unconventional instruments. The percussion selection worked flawless in the mix. I can tell your powerful song writting skills as I know this track was simply a joy to create. I always know how far a rock musician has come when I start to hear them write music such as this. BTW loved the "Gong" hit. Masterpiece my friend.

Ri Chu Dong Fang. While I don't get the title I sure get the feel of this classical piece. You certainly know how to arrange instruments and produce them. I love around 2:30 when those flute type sounds emerge into the mix. Really beautiful. David C Deal

Thanks for this emotional piece of music. The cello strengthens the strength of the song. I could certainly feel your inspiration & passion for being just 2-hrs flight time from the earthquake scene (here in Hong Kong).

Ian, this certainly managed to capture quite a good Chinese flavor here in this lovely composition and you seems to be pretty much inspired by oriental music lately. By the way, the translation should really be "Mid-Autumn". The word 'Zhong' alone means 'middle / midst '. Cheers.
User Image
Sherz (30 Oct 2008 06:19 PM)
Thanks for the feedback! "Zhong Qui" refers to Autumn, and was actually written during what the Chinese call their "moon cake festival" at that time of year. Here in NZ its not Autumn at all but actually Spring time but the local Chinese community still celebrate at the same time as in the home country. This is part of a series of works I am creating as part of an emerging album project, neo-classical works featuring Chinese instruments including DiZi (flute) and ErHu ( a cello-like instrument) and later other instruments later such as the PiPa etc. Cheers, Ian :)

Very nice and strong composition. I like it a lot! Cool orchestration. Love the theme at 0:26 and especially at 0:51 with some oriental overtones. Nice interplay between the orchestra and that ethnic flute (BTW, what is it?). Evidently, there's a story behind this composition. Beautiful work!
