I feel your pain, my friend. I've lost four very dear frieneds this past year and just learned of another one who was diagnosed with a terminal cancer. Music is the healer, though, and songs like this -- coming from the ehart, as it does -- is the best medicine for a hurting soul.
A person never "dies" as long as they are remembered in stories about them shared with others.
As for the song, this is some very strong medicine, kola. Well done.

Jason - This is beautiful and paints a very emotional moment in time. Great sensitivity.
Be strong. Rob

I think from memory you play through a distortion pedal straight into your sound card? If so you might want to investaigate some of the amp modellers out there today like POD, V-Amp etc. The guitar recording is just totally overloaded and doesn't do your playing justice.
|
 |
Drive and slide work is great - energy for days - clipping - but you know that...
|
 |
Plent of punch and drive....and a bit of kick **** thrown in. Reminded me of FOGHAT at times. Very cool track, some great bass riffs and some tasty bass tones.......yea, mix could be better. BUT HEY!!! That's my weakest point......

Have to agree with Paul about that mix. Why is it that a lot of people tend to redline rocking songs???
I don't have a clue.This is a good song Milo,just needs a remix very badly.
Like Paul sugessted, lose the compression,it's squeezing the life out of this track.
Back off on those levels and keep those VU meters out of the red !
Peace,
Tsargoth

Happy New Year, Jason ---
Man, this song isn't short on energy and drive. Where it does suffer, is in that mix, which is a shame because this is one driving MF song. The only thing that stands out is the steady snare hit, and the rest is buried in the mud of the mix.
Just my opinion, here, but I would roll back the levels and use a about two tons less compression -- try and get some definition in the guitars, bass and drums. In other words, leave yourself some headroom in the rough mix, so that you can brings up collectively in the mastering. I don't know -- I'll let one of the studio pros here address that better.
Not a bad song, but just red-lined and too distorted and thick.

I've finally got to you...never too late. So many new and ole faces; Got back 4 weeks ago from teaching so the transition back home takes awhile . This Mix. is cozy now. Love your vocals; complimented by a fine synth sound; subtle but complimenting; nice efx. to emphasize your singing; good lyrics. A seering guitar sounds really wonderful. This is a well arranged composition.
Great! -Your friend & fan also. -Vesa.

Way different from what I expected, Jason. Is this an older song?
|
 |
Jason -- neat song and I like the lyrics. The mix is a bit soft, to me. I guess I thinking it could use a few more dynamics. Listening to the snare drum, I'm guessing maybe the compression was a tad too much, which kind of mushed everything into the "soft" mix I hear. Don't smother those music -- let it breath a bit, and create a little energy.
But the song is a good one, and the vocals fit the song. Cool concpet on the lyrics, as well. This really is a good song.
|
 |
Doesn't sound like anything you've done so far, both mixwise and playing.Vocals don't even sound like you.
Peace,
Tsargoth

OK, NICE ROCKIN TRACK AND NICE PLAYING,
THE TIMING ISSUES SEEM TO BE WITH YOUR PLAYING!!!!
YOU TURN THE BEAT AROUND SEVERAL TIMES, WHICH IS COOL, IF ITīS ON PURPOSE, BUT THERE ARE SEVERAL OTHER SPOTS WHERE YOUīRE PLAYING IS SIMPLY NOT IN TIME WITH THE DRUMS!!!!
AND YOU CANīT BLAME IT ON THE DRUMMER!!!!! :) LOL
IF THE DELAY SEEMS TO BE THE PROBLEM, THAN I WOULD SUGGEST RECORDING THE GUITAR WITHOUT IT, AND ADDING THE DELAY LATER.
THAT MAY HELP YOU PLAY MORE IN TIME WITH THE TRACK.
NICE ROCKER, JUST THE SAME. :)
|
 |
Not a bad shot at the slide...god job. Cool listen. I like the open jam quality. Sink it up with the drummer and you've got it.
Regards
John

Hey Jason; ' Cool Change'---
Great rockin' tune. Most enjoyable...very tasty licks, like the guitar work...well it actually sounds effortlessly cool...(no playing should be work), obviously not; righto.. Sounds like slide guitar...mmmm me thinks so....very fine...excellent guitar styles in there...
This has a great -progression; well done. Good backup. Neat sound mix.
I thank you for your honourable review of my recent music. Been doing a few collabs. Like 'Voyage'-felt different; a keeper for me.
Have the most happy and sucessful of a 2008. Keep on keepin on.
Your amigo. -Vesa.

Buzzy but groovy.
hard to keep that echo in sync with the drums but most of the time you pulled it off. It rocked along pretty good man.

Cool rockin tune Jason, lotsa energy in this one!
|
 |
I love the opening on this --- very cool transition. Strong rocker in a BTO vein (remember them?). The mix sounds a bit muffled and I think the vocal is distorting some. But, dude, this song freaking ROCKS!!!! Just work on the mix and watch your levels , and watch this one really explode.
|
 |
Seems the timing is getting better Milo.
Christian Rock ???
Sorry,I'm not hearing that in this tune.
Decent basic simple rock.
Peace,

Never too old; aught by the cool guitar. Nice pickin'. Like that steady drum & easy deep bass...very cool tune..nice variance on the guitar efx. -good unique progression; very expressive playing; an eastern feel come out for a moment; then rocks on...good arranging. Most inspiring playing style.
-Your friend. -Vesa.

Jason, its already been said, I dont need to repeat.
What I do like is the way you're playing those chords, lots of energy goin on.
Just keep at it and you'll get the timing thing figured out.
|
 |
Are you playing to two different beat settings -- the beats per minute thing? Check, make sure everything is on the same page BPM-wise.
|
 |
KOR
(21 Jan 2008 04:46 PM)
Actually, without the echo/repeat the timing issues are way more pronounced. Sometimes these things happen when you don't use a click track and add the drums last.
As your recording skills get better so will the results.
Still some really good ideas.
|
 |
That timing in the intro is still off,it will take more than remixing to solve that.
Guitar sounds cleaner with less effects on it,but that timing sucks man.
Not trying to hurt your feelings, just trying to point out a problem with this tune.
This beat is even more out of time than the last mix was.
Maybe you should just start over with an ear focused on timing.
This would be great if it were tight. The way it is,it's just a clusterfuck.
Peace,
Tsargoth

Holy smoke, dude, where's the fire (storm)?
This sort of thing isn't my cup of tea, BUT ... I love the energy you pour into this. It sounds like you had a blast doing this, and it shows. I certainly appreciate what it takes to play this stuff and you do it well. I actually enjoyed hearing that guitar hemorage.
|
 |
Definitely a "Fire Storm" of ROCK!!! You don't let up for a sec.....OK, 1 Second, you do. THEN!!! Smoke and fire!!! Cool track! Cool PIC, too ;-)
