Hey Jeff! love that "live" feel to this performace...The rawness is captured with content...a natural. Jeff Healey comes to mind with me...the vocals are very distictively yours and come across greatly in this well written up-beat blues toon. awww, the gibson is singin true with the tones bro! Nice work! wooo ya!

Vocal have a sort-of Hendrix feel. The sound is very raw... like everything is a touch distorted... feels like listening to a live recording from an old juke. Very cool!

Hey Hi.. I listened to your tunes and read through the reviews and I can see that everyone pretty much said it already. You have some really nice tunes and ideas that with some polish on the production angle would be very kickass. I wish I could offer some real pro help, but take your time, watch the levels, go easy on the 'verb, use your ears and you'll get it done. :) Overall some nice talent here. You have a real nice rock voice...Work it!

Love the raw energy Jeff... I'm a believer...direct effective blues rock... vocals carry the track well and supportive guitar, bass and drums carry the rest.

Hey !!! A real homeboy on this site. I see that you are from Catawba,SC. I was born and raised in the Fort Mill,Rock Hill area, and lived in York County until I was 46,and then I moved to CT. Sounding good brother, like that snaky vibe you've got happening with this tune. Little bit of Robin Trower in this one for damn sure ! Peace, Tsargoth

This sounds like maybe you've recording yourself live playing along with a backing track through one mic in the room? Nice playing and vocals.

Got that "Mr Saterday Night Special " feel goin' in the opening vocals. Nice and raw. Vocal track is clipping - but it adds to the live-performance feel. Good blue-drive man. Plenty of hard energy.

Jeff- this song is a good, solid rocker. Your voice is super, too! Guitar solo is dynamite, and the whole performance is very cool. Three clapping smilies-- you too, Pete. Love this. Gina

Yep - I'm familiar with this one because Ras spins it quite a bit... and for good reason! I like this tune. I like your vox in this as well. As already noted, the solo is perfect for the tune. A good tune with a "hi-five" vibe to it. Very much enjoyed it.

You've got the rockin soul in your voice Jeff. This one is a classic rocker complete with fine lyrical phasing and a good guitar solo... liked the and strong musical energy that was maintained all the way through.

I hear you got some good bass on this one jeff.. and this mix is clean.. I could definitely hear your vox a touch more in front.. I love your singing man.. like that upfront snare... rockin hard and that lead is way cool.. great collab cause pete added alot in all the right spots.. :-)

Oooo-- good job to you AND Peter. The song is well constructed, and Peter's expertise brings it all home. Very cool and solid rocker, Jeff. Personally, I'd like to hear the vocals a teeny weeny bit higher in the mix-- but you're a dynamite singer! Don't need any effects on that voice, bruth. Gina

This is a good rocking song. Lots of energy. Well constructed. Like the jangling guitar sound which fits well alongside the chugging rhythm guitar. Vocals sound good but seem a bit deep in the mix to my ears. Lovely solo. Very nice work.

Sounds better Jeff, but there are still some trouble spots. Have to agree with Brian, that guitar is way too outfront, and has a ton too much reverb on it. Good tune brother, just keep tweaking and practicing your hand at mixing, and you will get it right. Recording takes as much practice as playing. Might want to back those master levels down a touch as well, track is too hot. Peace, Tsargoth

bdfutch (28 Jan 2008 02:46 PM)
Really cool song bro. Couple of things that might help. Use less reverb, if possible. It may be the sound your going for, but it sounds like its pushing your drums and vox too far into the background. Your guitars are way out front, and while they sound good, it messes with the balance of the mix. You have a good start here. If you don't mind me asking, what kind of equipment are you using to record on? I might be able to help you some on the mix. I'm not as smart as some here, but sometimes little things can make the most difference. You've got a good tune here. Keep it up!

Oh, wow, You did go back in and do a remix of this, huh? As I recall you're making do with some very basic gear -- been there and done that, so I know how tough that can be. The guitar sounds awesome, and I like your vocal on this. There's an honesty in the way you're belting this out. The timing seems to be improved from the first go, and it still has very live sound. The drums might be peaking a bit -- I can hear some of that digital breakup when you go into the red with the levels, but I love your playing on this. I would love to hear this done with a pro mix. You should check out some of the guys offering "mix my song" help on the Forum side. You'd be amazed at the results, I think, and get some tips on mixing and stuff. Finally, even if you can't afford a lot of gear, there are some pretty inexpensive stand-alone digital recorders out there. Tascan mones to mined, but there are others. I do all my stuff on a Boss BR1600CD, but there are others that are a lot cheaper. The thing is, you can take a simple machine, get a good recording, then move the tracks into your computer to fine tune them. Just a thought. The song is a good one, jeff, and it's a smoker. Don't give up on it, because you do have something here. Paul

Jeff, you've got some great ideas and talents.....Perhaps a bit more care should be taken in the mix and production. As a friend told me long ago........."Nobody said it was going to be easy" And .........don't I know it. Keep workin' bro, LT

Hey Jeff. Interesting tune. Vocals sound good. But with this mix is very difficult to give you a decent review. It sounds like every instrument is clipping. You might want to check your levels and see if it was the mix or if it was recorded too hot.

Yeah the song is very good and the vocals sound like they have some real quality. But..... the mix is killing it. It was actually hurting my ears listening to it. Bit hard to tell how much is from the recording and how much from the mix but there's lots of distorion happening. If you're interested there are a few guys offering to do remixes in the forum. Would be good to hear this again with some re-working. Actually if you're interested I'd be happy to have a go at remixing myself. .

This is a really good song. If you can get the recording quality better it would just shine.
User Image
reapersg (18 Jan 2008 09:09 PM)
The song rocks out pretty good, but the mix needs some work. If you clear up the upper mids and give it some punch in the bottom, relax a little on the fx..this tune would stand out much better.

I'm with Reaper on this, Jeff. This a frickin' ROCKER. I like the live feel, too-- and your playing and vox are great. Bass? Could use something there, to make it really kick-a$$. Kick up that drum punch, too. Bri-an's right-- lots of very knowledgeable folks here that would be willing to help when you want. In fact-- all of them who reviewed here! That Bri-an guy seems to know his sh*t pretty well on the mixing scene. Love the stuff, Jeff. You can sing, too, bruth. Very exciting, my friend.

hey Jeff you ROCK, I'm diggin the live room feel. It captures the moment in a cool way. Remixing would certainly give it more punch and separation....but i likes it as is!

Hi Jeff Since I know the limitations under which you have to record and how you go about it, I'll just comment on the song. Great rocker. Your playing and vocals are really strong and the construction of the song works well. OK I know I said I wouldn't comment on the production but damn I'm looking forward to hearing you when you get set up!

Hey! "live off the floor" recording...Kudo's fer you ya's...it's very hard to too!! I hear the idea of the composition even though the mix here..DaZeD has some great advice...Lots of FREE information right here at IMS! Still...This is real life!... apprieciate you desire to go it totally with a (sounds like) a manual Metronome just to get your idea's out there. Sure..mistakes are made with timing and such...(try a electronic "click" direct feed to the headphone while playing those tubs...and just crank it ) Guitar playing was very good here! as the vocals too... a little homework here will do wonders!! kudo's for the effort thou....

Jeff you have some talent. If we can talk you through some mixing help you are going to be amazed with the results. This is a solid jam and I love the guitar tones and the vocals on here. Have a look here http://www.imusicscene.com/index.php?t=jr_mixing and read the one about the Stereo Field. It seems like you have everything panned dead center so the instruments are stepping on each other.

Pretty good tune, but the mix is a bit off. Sounds like a raw "live" recording. I'd love to hear a solid mix on this. Love the vocal and there are some pretty awesome things going on with the guitar. Overall, I like this alot.

Sounds like your doing a Danny Joe Brown impersonation, ala Molly Hatchet. Good tune man. There are some timing issues here and there, and if there's a bass guitar in the mix,I can't hear it. Like the changes, southern rock from the School of Hatchet. Peace, Tsargoth
