Remembering Leonardo Taglialavore (RIP 13 Nov 2006)

Jims Artificial Eart (11/12/08 06:09:10)   Tag: Leo
It's been almost 2 years since we lost Leonardo Taglialavore. He was a good friend to me, and to many folks involved with independent music. He was a constant source of inspiration, immensely talented, giving, incredibly funny, and always pushing the envelope. For a few years, I think I spent more time on the phone with Leo than I did with my own family. He was a real multi-media artist, involved with video production, film scores, and of course,  composing great, great music. We worked on a few things together, and I remember each of them fondly. This is the last thing that I can recall that we did together, and it involves alot of people, one of those grand collabs that occasionally happen. But Leo is all over it, and I remember all the great ideas he had for the song. I think we managed to incorporate most of them. And he did hear this. And it made him smile. And I'm happy he got his wish.
Let's All Join Hands (in memory of Leo Taglialavore RIP 13 Nov 2006)

Today, I think also about his dear wife, Lisa, one of the kindest and most gentlest people who has ever walked the earth. I hope you're well, Lisa, and I wish you much peace.

Peace,
Jim

Funky Monkey... or is it Phunkey Monkey With Grand Jury

Jims Artificial Eart (10/30/08 02:28:56)   Tag: Collab With Jury
Since Juri didn't post it, I figure I can beat him to it. I can't remember when we did this, I think it was 2006, but I am often wrong, with that space-time continuum thing happening all the time in my basement. Juri Rosenfeld and I became friends on another site, where he often gave me advice and encouragement to help me actually sound in tune... He sent me this incredibly deranged but very tight sounding track and wanted lyrics and vocals on it. He's a great guy to work with, as you can probably tell from all the collaborations on his Mixposure page   http://www.mixposure.com/Grand_Jury/
and the warm reception you've all given him here. So, here it is, Funky Monkey...

Collaborations

Jims Artificial Eart (10/08/08 00:18:02)   Tag: New Tune

Since I've been on this site, I've occasionally put up some collaborations, usually ones I didn't screw up beyond belief, with other musicans/friends. I just uploaded one I did with someone alot of you know, Pete Considine AKA Red Sheppen AKA Charlie Beige AKA Badmouth, and etc... The song is one of my favorites, from a list of several. Acute Acoustyx. We did this one a few years ago. This was before I think either of us was much good at the recording/mixing part, but aside from a bit of noise at the start, it's pretty clean.

Pete plays some of the most melodic, smooth, and downright cool guitar on this one. I'm content to hang back in the mix, adding just bass and a bit of keyboards. It's the last one on the entirely too long list of stuff on my page here. "Acute Acoustyx."

Peace,
Jim

Apologies (under the Finished CD tab)

Jims Artificial Eart (09/20/08 12:41:49)   Tag: Finished CD
I put up all the tracks from the finished CD for a few days, just to see what folks might think of it. Under the finished CD tab. Not for every taste, to be sure, but I'm proud of the fact that I had some very capable, very giving and considerate folks on it. Marlon Kempmann(AKA Dr. Memory) produced and mastered most of it, Emocion added his wonderful voice, keyboards and mixing skills to Esprit De Corps and In Every Corner, Nigel Potter put guitar on The Plight Of Being Small, and Pete Considine sang and played lead acoustic on Say The Words, and mixed the back half of Son and Wave (and also added some of Nigel's famed Potterisms to the Wave part), Mark Cloutier played guitar on New Endeavors, giving it a distinct coolness that will never be replicated via the Strativarius. My best bro Konstriktion is on Landing Lights, and is a constant source of inspiration, encouragement and fashion tips. I wish Konstrktion would get a page over here on Mix.

Yeah, I'll take all this stuff down in a week or so, after anyone who's interested has a chance to click through it. Sorry I took up so much space on the New Song board, folks. I'm sure I'll burn in hell for it. If you want to comment, complain or share biscuit recipies, you can leave 'em on the Band Comment thingus, and I'll be sure to reply.
Peace,
Jim

Aardvark's Audio Love Book

Jims Artificial Eart (08/11/08 06:17:01)   Tag: Trouble with embedding....

Oh well, here it is. Guess you'll have to click on it. Seems to not want to embed the thing. Maybe it'll work this time. Yeah, my daughter swears alot, but I'm not sure who to blame for it.

Peace,
Jim

Thanks for the words on The Plight Of Being Small (With Nigel Potter)

Jims Artificial Eart (08/02/08 11:33:33)   Tag: New Tune
Thanks for the words on The Plight Of Being Small (With Nigel Potter) I'm battling bronchitis right now, and feel like crap, so I haven't had the enthusiasm to respond to all the attention for the song as I should. Much apologies, folks! So I figured I'd hog the blog spot for a minute and thank everyone at once. Most of all, thanks to Nigel, one of the most truly giving and capable folks that I know for all his help on the song. It didn't take but a second to dump my guitar parts and get his on there, I can tell you!

Thanks, Nigel!

And thank all of you...

Peace,
Jim

Drinkin' Alone (with Charlie Beige and Emocion)

Jims Artificial Eart (07/04/08 13:56:44)   Tag: New Tune

Drinkin Alone....about a couple guys who hadn't quite grown up yet, and maybe never will...?

We did this a couple years ago, I think. I wrote the thing, did a horrible scratch vocal (still have nightmares about that one), and was actually smart enough to send it to Pete. Lucky for me he sang it, and sang the Hell out of it. Pete added the acoustic leads, sneaking in and out of the mix. Sly added the really cool keyboards, almost covering up the really simple stuff I had in the background.

Peace,
Jim

Kung Fu Rhapsody (new song)

Jims Artificial Eart (06/24/08 07:50:15)   Tag: New Tune

Thanks for listening, Folks! your Kung Fu is smooth and strong and cunning, like a hawk flying through smoke and the rain. Go in peace, and make the world a better place. Now, I will share with you my corned beef sandwich. It has Swiss Cheese.

Seems like a cheerful thing. All my own beats, noises and such.  I've never done a song like this, at least not that I can recall. Yeah, there's some things I could've done differently, but at least I did something the first time.

Peace,

Jim

Jims Artificial Eart (05/21/08 14:52:53)   Tag: Video
I did a video for Our Lady Of Sorrow. Not recording much lately, trying to get in the right frame-of-mind for it. I hope you're all doing well out there...

Thought I'd try this out...

Jims Artificial Eart (05/05/08 05:53:18)   Tag: Video
This is a video I did of a collab with Emocion. The archive footage seems to work with the subject matter. Every single tune is an experiment...

WIP For Rob

Jims Artificial Eart (03/19/08 09:58:09)   Tag: New Tune
Wrote this for Rob yesterday. An acoustic ditty. Didn't think it would record very well, since I had my studio pretty tore up at the time, trying to remodel and get the spring cleaning stuff done... Didn't get much done, but I got this song. Pretty rough, I'll probably rerecord it when I'm off again, but I wanted to post something for Rob. I know he hates the "WIP" thing, but that's what it is. Get well soon, Rob, you continue to be in our thoughts and prayers around here.

Peace,
Jim
