Hello John and Keith! I love the vocals on this song-- they sound so sure and determined. The music is crisp and well-balanced, as in all your work. Still remember that great CSP you had, John-- what a super night that was. We all enjoyed your presentation to the last note-- and then came to your page to hear more! You ARE a pro-- all the way. Enjoy listening VERY much! Best to you! Gina

nice intro.. but i came to hear you sing lyrics expressing the title.. and i got what i came for.. meaningful lyrics for our time.. our human predicament.. I really like the progression with the major 7th/9th chord harmonies.. the expressive solo guitar makes lovely use of these.. of this song I haven't had enough but most certainly yes of the things of which you sing.. cheers john.. :-)

I've encountered in interesting phenomenon with this track, have you had enough. I listened to it earlier and left a review. Came back to hear it again, and truthfully, the appeal with which it grabs me is multiplied . most people have bought an album from the shop and only after a couple or few listens have been able to discover it,, and after a few listens it becomes a fav. Your music here has that quality for me. That's a real good thing. Often times,, songs that you hear and totally like straight away,, are sugar coated somehow and those are the songs that often,, after you've had enough,, you don't want to hear anymore. but the ones that take a few listens to grasp,, endure through time. Nice work Dog.!!!! :)

Really like this musically and some interesting guitar tones. You probably remind me of Gordon Lightfoot. I wonder what we'd come up with on a transatlanic together? Songs of the sea? -Un's Dad who grew up racing dinghies

I read the info for this song before pressing play...Need to re-start is as I`ve now missed the beginning.. Such a sad, sad violin that drips tears from it`s bow...Your lyrics, so poignant, are delivered with pure feeling and make me hang my head in respect for the people concerned and for your wonderful, heartfelt vocal.. It`s quite incredible really, that something so beautiful (your song) could come from something so terrible...9/11 Peace n love Mags

I love the music from the start.. john this has true bard quality and character.. wonderful of you to pay tribute to those brave souls who had the courage to act through fear.. true heros.. i like the fiddle and the vocal harmonies a lot.. don't know who put only 3 stars on it but i would give it 5 if that kind of thing were in the least relevant.. thanks john really enjoyed it and was moved by it.. :-)

John/Fable, This song was awesome. You found the perfect instrumentation for the song, the vocal, everything....The fiddle playing is free and melodic, but never seems to get in the way of the vocal. Great work on building the song in the end with the organ and female vocals. I really liked this.

When folks ask, "What's this FABLE group all about anyway?," all you need to do is hand them a copy of this song to listen to. It has substance, it has class, and it speaks to the heart and soul of every breathing being. Top-shelf singing, playing, and production - as always!

This is nicely put together, a soft and smooth music for you to sing these words passed on to you and the harmony comes in and builds to a strong high. Vocal interaction is done very well. A nice listen, thanks for sharing.

I wish this was kicked up a bit (maybe something in the mastering is all it needs). Still, there is nothing wrong with this song at all. I love it -- nice use of percussion and congas. That violin is wonderful. Nice use of backup vocals, and that rhythm guitar is perfect. Just punch it up a tad.

A very interesting song John. Memorable chorus, nice solo and fill-ins (violin/synthesizer). The overall mood fits the mysterious background on which your song was written. Great job.

Love the lyrics, and the feel of the acoustic instruments. The acoustic guitar is blended with the violin just right. Thanks for this fine gift, John.

Got to admit, you do this style well and the vocals are very good. That 12 string needs to be out front some.
User Image
Test48 (01 Jan 2008 06:09 AM)
My Lakota friend refers to "passing away" as "making the journey". Obviously this not what this song is about. John, I like these kinds of sea-based folk songs. As always, very nice job on the vocals (solo and harmony). This has a very "live" feel to it, and reminds me a bit of something someone like Gordon Lightfood might do. Very cool song, and well done overall. I do think the instruments could be mixed a bit better. (The bass sounds a bit thick, and the guitars are just a shade too far back in the mix -- especially that 12-string (at least it sounds like a 12-string to my ears). However , it is a pretty sparse song, instrumentally, which does work to focus the listeners on the lyrics. So, it's an acceptable tradeoff, perhaps, at least on this song. Still, I like this one a lot. John -- have a great 2008. I look forward to hearning many new songs from you in this new year.
