Has a sort of Dylan meets Dire Straits vibe going on! Good song! I think it would be worth putting more time in on the mix, aside from previous comments, the band is sounding very mono to me. Nice one :)

Very nice... some good comments before mine. I liked it. You'll want to up the voc volumn maybe 5-8%... KUTGW

Well written tune...at first I would agree with teh comment regarding the lack of bottom end in the recording, but by the end I don't know...it has that dire stragihts kind of tone. All recordings can be tweaked to death, so take that thought with a grain of salt. This and all your tunes have cathcy lyrics and good playing - well done!

Hey Mark,
I think I knew this chick, lol... seriously I sure I knew her.
Nice tune and well delivered and high on the fun quota. I can hear the Dire Straits influence too. Good job

 |
Great writing, Mark. Just wondering whether the bass and drums might need to come up a bit. There's a bit of lack of bottom in the overall sound of the track. But I love the writing and you're singing conveys the message really well. Nice work.
Cheers

Your songwriting skills are excellent . The lyrics and vocals fit the vibe and flow of this song nicely.Good instrumentation and musicianship !
There does seem to be some tightness issues {IMO} which maybe the effects your using. A very good listen !!!

Very smooth sounding and a lot of toe tapping fun. Very good guitar work and nice vocals. The lyrics are steamy and delivered with a good natural flow!
Good job!

Mark, sounds good, a fun toe-tapping tune. Your vocals remind me of Glen Tillbrook (of Squeeze Fame) somewhat, like the way you fold the guitar licks into this one.
|
 |
Read your blog:)
Yeah, can understand that, many of my early recordings paid hommage to the great god echo LOL......
So,all the reverb aside, what is very clear is quality in song writing!
It is very easy to imagine these songs being given the full pro studio treatment and the result would be instant hit IMHO.
Excellent song writing and very cleanly played indeed.
Most enjoyed.
Nigel.

This is the first I have heard you music, it almost is a cross between Dylan and JJ Cale, very unique and original. I enjoy the subtle guitar playing, makes it very listenable.

 |
Dire Straiats Rapster hit on the nail.
Some nice ideas just needs to be made into a fuller sounding song.
As a demo its showcasing a good songwriting skill and a high level of playing technique, just let down by the overall sound.

Hmmm I am trying to decide if I like the intro or not. It sounds cool but also sounds a bit crowded. This track is kinda of cool but I think I would back off on the delay a bit.
Vocals are working! Funny being a singer, I prefer the vox to have a hint of delay hehe.
|
 |
not reviewed yet? like the intro.. nice multi guitars.. a good vocal on this one man.. dire straights.. sounding great.. hot mean and moody with a nice booty.. well hey it is a pretty sexy song here bro.. cheers..

Hello Mark,
Listened to the top two tracks, liked both but this one is the better composition, I think. I like pretty much everything, you play very well. I particularly smiled at the way the refrain pauses and then hangs on the guitar hook. Nice. (You have a character voice, good for folk.)
I do have a suggestion, you need to find a way to kill the white noise on your recordings. Both are quite gauzy with fuzz. I have two solutions for you. The most important is for you to get yourself a SAMSON USB microphone. The things are very cheap and they don't produce white noise. I think it's because they bypass the soundcard. Most sound cards are noisy when handling waves. (They cost under $100) The second thing is that you get a hold of Acoustica. It's a low cost (circa $20) sound editor with a very cool feature. You can sample out the white noise. You simply select a micro second of fuzz from the wav - at a place where no instrument or voice is present, the beginning or end of the track - and then Acoustica applies this as a mask to take the fuzz out of the recording. Works nicely, but the microphone is the more important step.

Very sweet song quite enjoyable to listen to !
Good vocals ...Nice melody... Beautiful organ ...Well done!
|
 |
Love the theme on the organ that runs through this. The lead was great and the vocals were just right for the mood of the song.
|
 |
Yeah Mark - the organ is cool but I agree that a better drum/percussion program would work well for you. This is a very nice song - and yes I feel a 60s vibe to it. Thanks for the visit to my page and my songs!
|
 |
This one has a nice melody too it.
You can so obviously write a song well enough Mark and play that guitar nicely too.
Get yourself a better sounding drum machine and rework these ideas.
Organ has a cool vibe to it and its a memorable phrase thats plays out which is a good thing.

Cool tune. Organ sounds great as do the vocals. This is kind of giving me a 60s vibe. That organ sounds perfect and lyrically this is great. At the
1:47 mark when you bring in the solo you are getting a lot of noise there. You may want to trt and find out what is causing that. That is always fun :)
|
 |
I really like the way this song flows. It does have a melancholy feel to it and with the chords and melody it all works quite good.
|
 |
This is a good song, the lyrics are well written and performed. Nice job on the lead change. Theres a subtle style here thats very appealling, I think it works.
|
 |
Mark-I really like the organ sound/feel and moody flavour of this song Mine Again. Not to detract but I beleive it would benefit by being reworked but maintaining the same unique character. For example rewriting the vocal melody in a more contrapuntal fashion in relation to the chord progression the song would only add to the character of the peice. The organ's moody tone calls up aural visions of early Strawbs for some reason.
I listened to the other songs on your page and the overall compositional style reminds me of the late Alan Hull's work when the band Lindisfarne were peaking in the 70's and early 80's. Your songs A Little Bit of Country, and Fantom are the most memorable.

I think you are on the right track but we need to work on your mixes a bit. Solos are catchy on this!!
Your sound is thin to me. A little trick to try. Double your rhythm guitar tracks and nudge one .025 or so. Then mix them differently and pan Left-Right 60%-70%. It should fatten your sound up!
|
 |
ready steady go.. i like this bluesy DS flow.. sounds like a theme album mark.. a common thread linking the songs together.. got that easy listening but rockin vibe.. think you're onto something for this album..
cheers..

I'm with the Rapster on this one. I like the vocals and the whole feel - especially those pretty guitar notes. Not sure about the tuning - it's taken me twenty years to hear when I'm out of tune, and it'll probably take me another twenty to learn to stay in tune. Enjoyable listening!
|
 |
bit out of tune somebody there on the intro.. but with the vocals it works nice.. gives it a sort of chorus effect to the mix.. purposely detuned then? a spirited vocal with your easy flowing vocal style..
nice tasty guitar pickin.. good on ya mate..

I like the very simple loop you've based the song upon. This only asks for a better mastering it deserves widely, to my opinion.

Mark, you have quite a story to tell here. The melody is also nice but seems a bit repetitive and gets to become draggy towards the end. Would suggest to add some harmonies and/or instrumentation enrichment in the 2nd half of the song to build a climax. Absolutely nice effort.

Good music you have on your site. Flying and Free - it sounds great. I like your vocals very much and the guitars are sugar for my ears. You have no download available ... I would like to play your music in my radio show - if you are agree. If yes: Flying and Free???? please????
to my email: izp@serious-music.net? It would like to be great.

There's a really nice flow to this track. There's an almost Tom Petty feel to it. Lovely acoustic strumming gives extra momentum. Like the repetition of the title, it makes a good hook. Just wondering, Mark whether the bass could perhaps come up a tad in the mix to give it a bit more bottom. Cool work. Nice guitar work.
Cheers

nice approach to this track...its a little different in a good way. You opted for an interesting sound concept and it kept my attention.

Cool piece of blues guitar music. Love that rocking rythm section and especially your distinctive voice.

Hi Mark. First of all I really like this track I think this a great piece of rock. Just one feeling I had though. I would have love the main guitar riff to have had a bit more oomph to it (in terms of distortion or volume or something). It's a great riff but just needs to be a bit more in your face. Maybe just me though!!
