Hi Shane, this is my 1st introduction to your music and definately won't be my last. I listened to the intro a couple of times, the way you introduce this song is truely perfection. Your voice is as smooth as glass, but amazing how you can deliver power when needed. Man..that guitar lead has a tone that just cut right through me, and tastefully played to. This is a special track, as I would bet all of your work is. Brilliant stuff!!..congrats Ed

Immediately dreamy again... you're the master of harmonies, and I'm sure, a huge audience should love your entire catalogue, your vocal, your giant arrangements and your visions. Sorry, Shane, I know that I've told you similar things in the past - I'm afraid, that I will go on with that :-) Pascal

Shane, wonderfully conceived song. I love the electric guitar 'hits' now and then and how the guitar interplays with the acoustic and song in general. Brilliant arrangement and composition, with plenty of the variation that shows thought and care went into the creation. Of course, as always, your vocals ignite the song bringing it to a higher plane. Awesome! ~Blake

Shane do you ever write anything bad? Love the distortion in the backing with the acoustic. One of my favorite ways to write! Great arrangement and spectacular vocals!

Wonderful vocal performance here. Production is fine; levels are appropriate and the mix is fine. Great instrumentation. My only criticism comes in the acoustic guitar-- you seem to have recorded it line-in rather than with a mic. It results in a tinny sound rather than resonant which this song calls for. At any rate, a top-notch song.

Shane, this is superb! It has your usual excellent performance but theres something more going on in this track. The way you start it and how you weave your way thru the parts is really captivating to me. CLASSY!

No one writes 'em like you. Polished, powerful, and downright smooth. There's more great ideas in this song than what you'd get from an entire CD of commerically released music. Outstanding! Thanks for sharing your music here. Peace, Jim

No, it's not Duran Duran, it's Tears for Fears with a dash of Human League. You have captured that sound, if that was the intent. Your vocals are the focus here and they are quite strong. Instrumentation is solid and seems to complement the work overall. Nice job.

Fabulous tune, as all of you material. This reminds me a bit of the 70's and early 80's Pop music - you know, when they still made GOOD music?? Very nice performance and a great production!

ABOUT: The song tells of a young mother, who goes to work hard at a factory everyday to support her children. She carries the emptiness in her heart of having lost her lover, her husband. He died. But,, she has a belief, a faith , that life extends beyond death, and that she in fact will eventually be re-uinted with her man. Until then,, she has her children to love and hold. Even though this is a made-up story, i expect it's true for too many young mothers in the world. For the song pic i've used a photo of me and Lydie, my wife. it gives me the creeps using my own photo for the song, -- because i have no intention of becoming the guy in the story LOLO. fingers crossed aye. shane

It seems as I was long time not here. This has only one reason: Often I am busy. But today I thought by myself: You have to visit Shane's site and listening to his music. This song is not a surprise - no because all your songs are very good. And this one is top recorded and you have made a creative variously work with instruments and vocals. Very very good. I have seen that the downloads are not possible. But when I need a song for my radio-show could it be possible that you send a song to me via Email? Inge

A catchy dreamy pop beauty, as always, killer bass and wonderful guitars harmonies... little sequence effects push the track forward, the way you're arranging is on the edge of the dnb style - sometimes -, I love the "heavy rock" transition. And your vocals are just cream. Dream on with Shane!

Hi Shane, Love your sound. Very pleasant and with a tag of mystery. Love your voice too, I am also a fan of the use of keyboards and synth. Your pitch and delivery is just fine. Vocalists tend to be hard on themselves because it is their job to deliver the story while the music defines the groove. I am glad to have met you on IMS. I and believe everyone else involved with IMS agrees, that there is a comradery and unison on this site that My space and other sites tend to be detached from. I was introduced to this site by my drummer and I am so thankful, a great way to make friends of your own breed around the world. From Vancouver, BC Canada to where are you..I don't see it mentioned here, but wherever you are, it pretty cool to share with others this way. BTW Thank you for you comments on BAD BLOOD. We have just posted another song called"Child Gone Wild". Give it a listen and let me know what you think. Angela Blade

This is really nice ... and timeless. I love the changes, and I don't have a problem with your pitches at all. I think this is a complex piece, Dynamic. Nothing is present that doesn't serve a purpoise in this song. Fantastic piece of work. My own spritual beliefs have undergone changes in recent years, but the story of Jesus Christ is an important one, and his life, death, and the things he espoused while on this earth should serve as a models for what we should be. Well done. Rhanks for sharing.

Hi Shane, I don't think that "The Holy One" sounds dated. The same for the pitch - it's wonderful, with a great timbre and so soft - even reminds me a bit a Chris Rainbow. I love the message of the song, the variations after its transition to a pop song. Reverb - it was a trend to add much reverb in the earlier 90s, as people took it for granted later to compress everything. This song is a rich production with an awesome change of parts - a touch of Genesis - and a heavenly sound, another gem in my collection. Thank you, dear musical friend. Pascal

you have to be the most innovative and inspired songwriter i have heard. this could be split into 3 or 4 different songs, but you have made them freely flow one into another. who cares about the "verb". there will surely be someone who picks you up and backs you.

Shane (23 Mar 2008 07:25 AM)
THE HOLY ONE ABOUT : I recorded this track 15 years ago. It was done in a small commercial studio, on a Fostex 8 track. I was on a tight budget and the studio was costing £10 per hour- so,, there was no way to spend time with it to get things right. Plus,, my own ignorance and stubborness messed me up here, because i kept insisting to crank up the reverb on everything,, the vox, the piano, the guitar,, i wanted em all to be swimming in verb. The engineer tried to get me to ease up- but i thought everything was gonna be awesome with tons of reverb. Hence, that's one of the main things wrong with this end result. I don't like the pitch of alot of my vocals here. To get the track done right, i would entirely scrap this old demo and re-do the wholoe thing. However, i am posting it to celebrate the glorious event of the resurrection of Jesus Christ - Easter. In this case, it is not the production or sound quality that matters. It is the lyrics. The song. He Lives !! - and likewise, we shall all rise again in the resurrection. Shane

ABOUT: Truly this is a heartfelt composition. Obsession with a woman is what made me drum this one up. -- hillarious though,, because when i was mid-way to finishing the track,, i lost interest in the woman who i was obsessed with and writing the song about,, -- but no problem,, i suddenly got a new girl to be obsessed with , she was a cashier at a supermarket-- so this song started out about one woman,, and finished about another. -Coz-,, that was her name. i'll probably get shy about this and come back and delete this blurb. LOL --- ahh,, who cares. : ) shane

(sigh) I know... You've heard it before, but humor me... Everything works in this song. I hadn't read your song info before listening and the thought I had was that the guitars sounded great. Now, reading that you did it with acoustics I have to say - This experiment paid off HUGE! The dirty guitars are certainly dirty enough, but they have a unique voice (which is really the goal in my world). They have the right amount of puncht o get your attention and the uniqueness of the sound "leaves a mark." The elements in this are fantastic. I love the keys and all they add to this. Jessie sounds fantastic, she has a big fan in OH. I can't think of anything more to say about this song that I haven't said about almost all of your other material. I am a fan of your music Shane... almost to the level that I should be embarrassed... Can I get a signed poster?? lol Great work.

For my tuppence Shane, I think the guitars work perfectly. The use of acoustics seem to give the track an airier feel than would likely result from electric guitars. Having said that I don't think that the guitars lack power in any way. There's still a heap of grunt in them. Sensational production and vocals (that goes without saying). Jessie's got a great voice too. I keep expecting you to disappear from the OMD scene and to be the beneficiary of a nice fat contract. Amazed it hasn't happened yet. Cheers Brian

The female singer is Jessie- In this production, i decided that all the guitars, including any grunge or power chord stuff,, had to be done on acqustic guitar for the challenge, and to explore the results.. So its all from my black Ibanez acqustic.-- beefed up with overdrive and distortion. all said and done, i think that forcing all the guitar work to be created from an acquostic, turns out to be a handicap to the overall score of sublime sound . This whole bit would probably be way better of the heavy stuff was one with proper axes and a good ole Marshal stack. I am very interested and eager to hear ya'lls opinion on that. Does the 'unique' sound of the result, score high enough to say, .. yeah this is a good choice,, or should in fact it be said,, - The recording would be way better with proper electric guitars. ??? share with me your ears people,,, and thanks sincerely. i wanna say thanks to Tamera for the cool song pic (rose -sheet music) . And also , Tamera put together a video for this track also, -- thanks tamera,, nice work , and i appreciate you. Shane shane

Great production Shane! The acoustic guitar twinkles like it's made of crystal glass. Excellent variety in the song, which is very skillful on the production end, since the majority of the song is one chord. The two voices ...... compliment each other perfectly and with perfect pitch. I'm on my third listen now so I'm gonna stop typing and just enjoy the song. Nice! Farrell

ABOUT: In this track I've got Jessi singing with me . We did this a couple years ago. Jessi was only 14 then. In this age of cyber bands, 90 % of the people i work with in music are across the net.. -- Jessi lives down the road from me- and it is becoming a special pleasure to actually work in person with somebody. !! LOL especially somebody as cute as Jessi. oops. As for the music, i enjoyed exploring the blend between a Trance beat (kik drum , bass note, Kik Drum , Bass note, 4/4 alternato in ) ,, blended with rock roots. I used Ohm Boyz OhmForce to get the effect on the aqustic guitar . it's cool. shane
