Song Information:

A lot of young people don't know about the struggles and sacrifices made by so many during the civil rights era.  I grew up in the 50's & 60's and I remember it well.  I witnessed with my own eyes the power of non-violent protest.  I also witnessed the cruelty and viscious actions of those who perpetrated hatred all over the United States.  When I sat down to write this song all those memories came flooding back!  I remembered all the times I was beaten and victimized by the police just for being Black in the wrong place.  Although the struggle for equality is far from over, I feel it important that we pause from time to time and give respect to those who paved the way for all to be free.  If not for them, people like Obama wouldn't even be considered for the highest post in America.  Part of the philosophy behind the "It Is What It Is" CD is to delve deeper into my own psyche and bring out the inner core of my musical voice.  This song is an integral part of what I have to say this time musically.  But, there are many more parts to this musical sermon.  I will be filming my first professional music video this month in L.A..  I chose this song to be the first.  Enjoy!
