If I recall correctly... I think Jake was one of the first artists I heard when I came online... Seems like half a lifetime ago now, across at least three OMDs. I still get the same buzz listening to Jake as I ever did... For me there is no mistaking when a man is not just playing something but IS something. Jake IS the king of the blues,it's not something he does in his spare time, it is everything Jake is,right down to his bones. That shines out for any who wish to se it. MANY moons ago,I grew up listening to blues artists on white lable vinyl albums, where even the artist name would often not even be on the album. Simple reason,no really knew who it was. Recordings of the earliest blues salvaged from the archives. As a young man, there REALNESS really hit home. Their playing was from the soul, was about the world they moved through and expressed in sucha clear, unfiltered way. Simply,it spoke a man's truth. Evrytime I listen to Jake,I get that same feeling. And,sigh, everytime the song finishes....there is a momment of pause... The silence rushing in,my reality washing back in. I just sit there for a momment or two thinking to myself just how damned good that was,and this song,is like all the others,it ends and I just say: "Damn..... that was good" Best wishes as always mate :) Nigel.

Good stuff Jake. It's nice to hear someone playing slide that knows how to use it.Doc's sounding good in there on those keys as well.Man,this is some toe-tapping tune. The only thing better would be if there was more than one song of yours here to listen to. Peace, Tsargoth

Slidemaster. The thing that I like so much about your music is the way melt rhytm and melodic ideas into a cohesive whole. It shows skill and dedication to the fine art of slide guitar. The tone you create is classic, old school, raw but at the same time original and refreshing. This tune has you written all over it and I like it a lot!!!
User Image
reapersg (02 Nov 2007 10:16 AM)
love that slide, so smooth. what a cool tune to start with. This one has a great flow and the slide works so well. Steady rhythm, some creative vocals...yeah this is too cool. Great to have you over here Jake!!!!

What a great atmosphere & melancholy... reminds me a bit of earlier "Electric Light Orchestra" - as always, Jake adds incredible guitars and expressive vocals. I love the monster drum work, the flanger and weeeird slides. Absolutely great track!

Man,lost the song in a crash, and then foudn again.... P H E W!! Well as ever,no less than on your best. Curious that we use terms like that isn't it? "Best"... I guess that is the old OMD habbits. Well I get tired of the same old same old... Music ain't there to be graded. Just got into,or left alone. I mean how could you grade something that is a part of someone's whole existance? Nope,no room for games in music. Not "REAL" music, listened to by music FANS,and that for sure is what I am. Listening to this, well,it just get's the blood going, and it doesn't have all the words it needs to say what it feels. I could waffle on for ages about technique, production, mixing, and blah blah blah, but to be honest, all that stuff bores me. Listen to song dammit. I would even dare to begin on all that stuff. I'm afan,I love to LISTEN to music, and that means I don't have to give music autopsies,I just got to listen, and that I do. You ARE the King Of Blues. I hope that dumb **** gives you your music back mate,'cos he sure ain't no fan. Kicked back, listened and loved. Nigel.

sitting at my table sipping on some jack and staring at the man playing slide saying --"yeah he can play the blues"--wreaks em--can smell them in the air--the stench of whiskey, sweat and burning frets!! dig it man

Ah bliss... Nice arangement Jake, those distant slides are working a treat mate. Star for sure is the vocal. Oozing class and depth. The whispered harmony hits the spot. One from many moons ago, another place, another time... But great music is ageless. Play it on the moon, play it ina shanty town,it's gonna work,it's gonna connect. CLASS. Nigel.

Ha! Jake when I read this was Psychedelic Rock, I had to give it a listen to see if you've drawn from those dreamy S.F. days and sure enough you've captured it in a great way! Always excellent slide work and nice groove with the vox and beat! Farrell

WILDHONEYPIE (03 Mar 2008 11:34 AM)
This is a cool tune, laid back and sultry. Ony thing, for me, Jake, is that it sounds a little bottom heavy. Other than that, it's a good song! You have a nice, deep resonance to your voice. Slide is really nice, too. But why is this posted as psychedelic rock? I know-- yer just pullin' my chain, right? Good job, Jake. You got a nice sig sound. Gina/WHP

Very unique blues tune,- love the commentary while the guitars are playing in behind, giving a warm atmosphere. Good message. Great percussion and focused bass of course. Like the way it sequays into your playing, shifting, weaving those most great sounding slide riffs. Some Dynamic blues alright; Excellently tasteful as always. Most excellent tune. Most inspiring Jake. -Vesa.

what.. this title escaped me?.. man i know it jake.. must have been a previous mixpo life.. this has a lot of psychedelia in it.. like the airplane back in the haight.. love that chromatic progression with the bluesy cadences through the circle of dominant 7th chords.. reminds me a bit of elvis too to tell the truth.. lovely understated slide solo completes this dreamy musical trip to the nether regions.. damn I miss the summer of love back in the day.. haight ashbury is no longer that far away.. thanks jake.. love that ending.. very arabic sounding mode there.. love minor 2nds and chromatics man.. awesomeness incarnate.. damn tsar is right.. that progression is absolutely killer.. cheers brother JL.. :-)

Jake... I swear the heat and road dust is somehow ingrained in this... Can't fully explain it,just sense it. For me it's just another in such a long line of the real deal music from you. I can honestly say I have NEVER heard anything from you that I didn't love. I was speaking to the wife today about you actualy. I tend to prattle away for hours to her about music, and what it REALLY is and isn't. I was saying how long we had known each other, and in all that time I had not heard a song that was anything less than stella. I mean,c'mon, one listen to this song would tell anyone of the class of blues we are talking about here. It ain't country and western blues,it ain't pop blues,it's blues, down to the soul blues!! The real thing about blues is you don't explain, you just get it. Top class, second to none. Awesome. Nigel.
