Left Ibanez Destroyer II Bass (1982) £65 ($101) from a market stall in Waterloo, London. Originally very badly over painted white except headstock, made fretless by my fair hand (hear on Plangent Remix). Right (fake?) Epiphone LP Black Beauty £166 ($259) haggled with Amazon market place dealer. ftlpope

I think the MIM Fender natural ash Telecaster I scored last October was my best deal. It was made in early 2009, and turned out being a one-piece ash body. The original owner bought it new but soon decided it didn't suit his needs for metal, so it stayed unplayed for several months until he unloaded it on FleaBay. I bagged it for $300, which would be good in itself, but the seller also included a tweed, hardshell case he bought for it. This model guitar comes with no gig bag or case, if bought new.

So, basically, I got a new Tele, with hard case, for $300. Even better, it had Tex-Mex pickups in it, which is one of the few stock Fender pickups I like.

That is a sweet deal Paul. I am having GAS these days and I am hardly playing. What does that mean?

Uh ... that you're normal? I did the same thing a few weeks ago and seriously considered going for a carvin of some sort ... or maybe going all in for a new Les Paul. In the end, I shook the urge off and thought it best to use the tax refund money to pay off bills and boring stuff like that. So NEXT year, when all our credit cards are gone and I have true disposable cash (not the plastic variety), I might treat myself to that new toy.

We all go through those phases. Just when we think we have everything we need or want in musical gear, we see something and start thinking, "I'd like to have one of those." It can be a tough addiction, my friend. I think quitting smoking 31 years ago was a lot easier than shaking the GAS addiction.
