Joe :how do you get so many reviews ? LOL This is better than my mockingbird by a long way. Agian syntopia has crafted a sweet bed for your voice. There is a lot to really like about this song. Melodic and well put together. A hit even before the lead comes in lifting it even further. Liked it a whole lot Sly

Excuse me Rapster but I´m a little bit under pressure with my job -I´m soo late here. As always you voice is distinctive and that perfect production -hooo. Your musical level is unobtainable -guitar work, arrangement, vocals etc. - for my ears its perfect. I admire that you are so close with so many styles because I also love to hear you playing the blues. Send you my compliments . Erik

Rap is not my thing...but I got to hand it to you...I was singing along with this one...Again , You've got a wonderful singing voice and I like it when you sing that close harmony...As for the music...It pulled me in ...Don't see why this should't do OK on the radio or....MTV (lol)

Cool track ! Though I'm not a particular fan of rap...there is an interesting symbiosis of differewnt genres here ! The arrangement is nice. Catchy rythm and the use of all them synth patches is tastefull and quite original ! The fusion like guitar work sounds very selfish which is a compliment in itself ! In the lyrics Imitation is mentioned ! In this tune that´s not the case ! It´s a melting pot of styles ! This is a good walking tune ! Fun to listen !

First of Joe,congratulations on the releae of your album. I hope it prooves to be a great success for you,and on the subject of your album,I have to say mate, your production on the whole album was stella,I know who to ask for tips now :) So here we are,and I heard this track on the radio and instantly liked it. The fusion between you and Syntopia is perfect. Your styles blend perfectly IMHO. Again, top notch production. Some nice dazzling guitar bursts against the solid soundscape and perfect vocals. It all adds up to yet another class track. Excellent. Nigel.

Grabs ya right from the start... what a beat man... and then some infectious styling... then you add wonderful musical sensitivities and some real nice vocal creativity into that and the piece as a whole becomes really well structured.. full of fine skills .... a complete listen. Great stuff Joe!

Being a bit off-center, I used to give my students copies of a song's lyrics - but not just copies. I had made a copy and then made a copy from the copy and not the original. I then made another copy from that copy and continued the process until I had 25 sheets of the same lyric - the bottom one almost like the original and the twenty-fifth copy on top virtually unreadable. I was then able to give them the "Mockingbird" lecture. Copying a genius can get you close, but copying someone who's copied someone who's copied someone is going to get you on top of the unreadable pile. Anyway, that's how I presented it. Your song does a much better job with its solid beats, well-crafted lyrics, and vocal conviction. Now, I wonder how many mockingbirds out there will be flying in to copy "Mockingbird"?

ya Joe...the mockingbird's are expert at their thing. Gotta a song called Sheep that Henry recently did the vox/lyrics on...a very parallel commentary! A very pro effort here man! Very buttoned down production in it's entirety...sounds superb. Surprised you waited to get your geetar licks in, but when they arrive they are tasty and play well against the nasty phat synth texture. Great concept song with some classical underpinnings, with superb playing all around. Awesome!!! ~Blake

Great, great, great tracks Joe and Sven!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! Joe I'm so glad you've decided to give us a larger peek at your talents as a singer and guitarist! The lyric is clever and although the song is off that well traveled musical path, it has just enough of that journey to appeal to the masses. Very well done friends! Farrell

Great pads on this one, Rapster! LOVE the lyrics! Great work on vocals...sweet harmonies. I *really* dig the lyrics man! "...doood..." Great guitaring on this track (as usual!). I loved the octave runs...and what it led to: excellent playing. GREAT work on this track Joe!!!

this is very well performed and has a touch of humor to add to the listening pleasure. cool stuff Joe, vox are smooth and strong and the music really fills the song out. Some tasteful lead work and a cool tone going on.

Agree with all here-- the synths are fun and the beat is super sexy. I like the vocals, although Joe I really believe your voice is good enough that you don't need effects on it. They may be very cool for this song, but I can hear a smooth, melodic voice in there, and it's saweet! I always find myself trying to single that out and hear it. Mixing is excellent, as well as the guitar and bass. I like it very much!

Vesa (29 Jul 2008 10:56 AM)
I love the groove on this, nifty cool rhythm, -like the 'bird sounding' loop that repeats, very clever idea. Fine synth sounds,-Good vocal tone, with all the fine sounds not diminishing your great singing expression;-the deep bass has some neat edge to it, really give motion to this,-- my fave sound of synth strings makes this the more sweeter..lovely guitar; a catchy tune; the words stay nicely in ones mind; "Mocking Bird, Mocking Bird, Have you heard..." Fine percussives, clapping is a great addition which really fits well to the fun-ky colourful atmosphere. Like the cascading keys and then the guitar riffs emit a unique sound, most enjoyable. Really a SUPERB tune. Fine production. Sounds like you guys are really into this and having fun. Fine chemistry. -Your friend. -Vesa.

Hummmmm...You know Joey, if I`d have heard this fabulous beat first....ahahaaa, you`d have had a fight on your hands, Svens beats always excellent, get better n better...You have what I think is a "hit" on your hands here..Wow, just love that vocal, sexier than ever and really clever lyrics, to the point, no **** footing around with this one..Heheeee, damn, that guitar is fantastico...No Mocking bird with you darling man, you are unique... People liken you to Zappa...Personally I dont hear that, I guess what they mean is that he too was one out there on his own...I believe that if any of your songs are gonna take a leap into the spotlight then this is the one..."Mocking bird", my all time favorite from you. Kudos Joey and Sven for this masterpiece..xxxxx :-)

Lot's of humor in this collab! Two talents combined to produce this higly urban beat, with some NewUrban fell and a very space like mix down. Excellent, as all work from Rapster, not to say Syntopia! Rapster did the singing? Very, very good indeed! Emilio

Wow, already the start is so uplifiting... rich and clear laid back arrangement with ethno touch and so clever production details. Joey's voice is so FUN-tastic here, and his fine guitars work so great in the mix. I love Sven's playful synths, so organic, and along with the hypnotic claps this killer track sounds already like a master piece - added to my faves. Pascal

I thought of Frank Z too, cool catchy vocal phrase...nifty spontaneous flow of the guitar, dig the beat, fun-ky bass, give the man a pat on the back...a very expressive, letting it all flow out tune...seering, sizzling soundz. I thought of Jan Akerman for a moment. Excellent tune. -Vesa.

I'm diggin your combination of hiphop beat and acid jazz guitar fireworks on this track. It's great how the keyboard slinks its comping around the changes from rap'd verses to scorcing guitar takeover. Powerful stuff!

Great outside stuff on the guitars, and that fizzy, furry tone works great in context -- and context is everything. Love the groove and the beats, but it's the harmonized vocals that get me every time. Really nice one, Rap!

Classic rapster...with that slightly funky bass (reminds me of Incubus), and the zappaesque approach to phrasing/shredding on the lead. Great tight playing and vocals Joe on a very solid song. There's an incredible uniqueness that's all your own when you're in your zone. You definitely hit it perfectly here....congrats. Welcome back from the hiatus..great to hear some new stuff!! ..Blake

Joe, you know I love your stuff - and this is right in there with everything I love. The beat, vocals, and that guitar (especially at 2.00 to 2.15, stopping and starting with those licks). I'm getting a real "off the cuff" improv feel. Your wires are crossed Joe, and the sparks are flying. You're getting me inspired. Rob

Joe Missed this one when it 1st hit : its busy as hell here for some reason loadsa new musiccoming on stream.....wander why eh ! Anyway for the uninitiated Mr.joe is the funkmeister supreme. Points on this one: The drums freaking hell you got some deepness happening there mang and when you factor in the frequency you got that bass line sat in the whole thing sinks lower than mixtanic in a gale force storm. Now thats deepness ! hook repeats to the fore : there is no way this isn't gonna stick especially as you delivery that line with such a great lilt vocally...the little upkey phrasin just works making it stick.Cool. Lead : well you are showing off now aren't you LOL ! I often wander at the quality some of musicians I have met play at. You fall into that category the old "how the hell does he do that" one. Keep it funkin Joe Production wise : you have always done a good job but your more recent stuff really does seem to have shifted up a gear I dunno if that down to your new programs or a wax clearout in those ears but whatever the reason Joe the mix here is killer cool.Only thing that I didn't like was the snare - the one in the verses...the bridging snare is awesome.....could you sneak that big sounding one into the rest of the track somehow. have too mention the way you've got such a great stereo spread on the chord strums too Joe......sweetly done.Keep that lead pretty centered and let everything play around. I don't know when to retire.Guess that time will come one day though Sly

Hi Rapster, this tune sound very much like Jazz, Blues and Funky rap, all together in one take. I like this combination and sort of cool set of drum and bass you have in here. I am still dealing with my drums stuff for my Solar Dreams, it is such a draining process. But I found some inspiration here now, thanks for the gift. Now, who is the vocalist in this track? It was you? With million of love from Singapore. Piperon

Sorry it took so long Joe, been busy with WCR 'cause I crossed my wires and now I don't have to retire. Man I love the lyrics and the problem is I never can retire totally, when it comes to music no matter how I'm ready! Mix is right on and what a great performance on top of it. Ya gotta love those guitar runs too. Yeah, I can hear the jazz influence in there- a little Satriani mixed with Coltrane.

This brand of cool soul.. is amazing with your treatment and your delivery. As always Joe .. you deliver the goods with authority and polish. The guitar playing on this tune is nothing short of spectacular. Your approach to songcrafting is most unique. I hear strains of Zappa at times.. other times in your guitar playing.. i hear Holdsworth creep in an out. Fabulous Joe.. indeed!!!

Awesome rhythm section Joe. Those drums are rock solid. Nice bass end as well. Vocals excellent as always, and the guitar is so right for the piece. I can this becoming a fav for many. It incorporates so many things that folk enjoy about your music. From the rap to the lead,it kind of brought all the elements togther. Lead is perfect. Have never heard anyone play like that, but I musta dmit,my knowledge outside of heavy rock is pretty limited, but still, perfect. Might also add,EXCELLENT production Joe,whatever youa re doing, keep on doing it,it's working perfectly. This one will be a stayer. Greatly enjoyed. Nigel

WOW!!! First off......I did this listen via headphones and I was blown away by the production. I always love your vox, so this is a given, but when your guitar came in, I was knocked over by the tone and the performance. This song is a mix of classical , popular and very modern music. It produces a very intensive emotional atmosphere. And your distinctive voice is the bridge between all different parts within this song. Hoo I lve your guitar playing. You know Joe I´m always deeply impressed of your ability to produce that sound and to arrange a song with a number of very different parts. Really GREAT. Erik

Joe.. WOW!. This song is a study in emotion. The instruments are so delicatly placed in this piece. It brings out the message with such an eloquent style and grace. As always with Joe's tunes..the production values are strong and true. The skills it takes to put this kind of composition together.. the patience it must take to figure out the intricate steps needed to bring out the statue in the wood..Brother Joe.. you have been blessed .. thank you for your music

Yes, this is how you do it. Every note, every instrument, every phrase has it's place in this powerful production. The synths and piano compliment one another so well, your vocals, always top notch, say so much with so few words, and the guitar, well, my friend, it soars! Thanks for sharing this... Peace, Jim

Really enjoying this piece Sven And Rap. Filled with emotion from start to end. Lots of nice little hooks throughout (you know I love hooks;). Nice to see you go in a different direction with the guitar Joe, has a real classical vibe to it. Great colab guys ......Bravo !!!! Gabriel

Sven and Joey.... See The Light.... From the very first note this beat is right on the money for me Sven...Then in comes your vocal Joey....Which is beautiful, touching, from the heart and so full of soulxx:-) . I`m sure that this for me is probably your best vocal to date......Your lyrics are minimal, always a plus + for me..Now the guitar, Oh, it`s clear and sweet, melancholy, full of feeling, it weeps...xxx This song touches my soul from all aspects...less is so very much more here....Kudos Sven and my darlin B for a beautiful song.....xxxxxx Much love, Mags xxx... xxx :-)

i have written this song with many sad and bad feelings for a long time , you have found the right lyrics to the song and performed our track with deep soul and full of emotion. Your vocals and guitar are uniq and fantastic.- Thanks for this Collab. Sven

Beautiful feel on piano, dreamy arrangement and crisp, soft beat work... you almost remind me of Seal's expression here, intensity of your vocals and heavy depth of your lyrics is your trademark... as passion for all music details is. So I particularly love the sweetness of digital synths here, and "guitar sadness". This song is different... and it is good.

Hi Rapster, I like the kick butt drum kit and the synth is really interesting to me, a kind sawtooth pad. And definitely, the vocalists are full loaded with love everywhere else in the track. The cross over transition is very Bluesy and Jazzy style, kind of perfect integration. Soft and Steady win the race, you just got them in here. I know why now! With million of love from Singapore. This works. In places I was really pulled in. Some very compelling guitar too. Glad I found it.

Hey my friend... loved this new one! Nice intro with that Piano and the warm strings... a bit melancholic mood I see. Cool electro-drums and your great voice that works so nicely as always. Really enoyed the arrangements as well. Beautiful guitar playing. Perfect for my warm Italian night in the garden... :) Ciao and thanks for the download, amico mio :) Corrado

Superb performance and sound quality, excellent form. Very professional. The subject matter is a bit unerving and the intent comes off very well no grey area here...Perhaps a good choice for a B side?(if we still had them).B
