Oxy-Moron new song from Lorne Reid and Farrell Jackson

Here's the latest song collaboration from Lorne and I. It's called Oxy-Moron. Just having had a complete knee placement 5 weeks ago and relying on Oxycodone to help ease the pain, is the inspiration for the lyric. There's currently a huge Opioid abuse crisis in the U.S. A lot stems from Doctor's over prescribing those lovely pills. I can see how one could get hooked but fortunately I'm done with them. I've used as many oxymoron-isms in the lyric as I could while still making a sensible story line. This is my small way of bringing some attention to the problem.

RIP Marty Balin of Jefferson Airplane

RIP Marty Balin of Jefferson Airplane

It's a real bummer to hear of Marty Balin's passing at 76 years old..........The Jefferson Airplane, Marty and the S.F. music scene were very influential on my early musical development. I still listen to Surrealistic Pillow to this day. I saw them in concert at The Fillmore West in the 70's. Marty and the band definitely lived by the rock mantra of "Sex, Drugs, and Rock 'n Roll". RIP in the great psychedelic sky Marty..........

The memory of Jefferson Airplane in concert was the catalyst for my song San Francisco Daze.  Here's one for you...RIP Marty.

The reason I review songs

By Farrell Jackson, 2017-10-27

I've been thinking about the song reviews I do at Mixposure. If you've heard the songs I write and the collaborations I get involved with, you'll most likely agree that my interest in music styles and genres varies greatly. So it follows the same road when I choose songs to review. On average, I review approximately 1.1 songs a day according the Mixposure statistics that are shown on the Community/New Songs pages. That's not an extraordinary amount by no means but do know that I listen to many more songs than that.

If I hear something in a song I like then I'll leave a comment......if I don't, I won't. The comment/s might  be just a few words or a more detailed analysis of what I like about the song. I believe artists appreciate even a comment like "good song!". It let's them know someone is listening to their creativity and hard work it took to take a song from nothing and to the point of posting it up.

I suppose the real reason I'm writing this blog is to let you know if you get a comment from me, however slight, it's an honest comment. I'm not shining you on or trying to boost my review numbers. There's nothing to gain by doing that. I'm leaving the words because something in your song caught my ear, struck a note, and made me feel. I think/hope you would like to know your effort paid off and hasn't fallen by the wayside....even if it's just a micro encouragement from someone you don't even know.

My ramble for this morning...............I need to back off the caffeine...........

Create an album option

By Farrell Jackson, 2016-08-17

I posted this question in the Forum section under "How To Create An Album". I'm not sure it was seen so I'm blogging it on the front page. Any advice appreciated.

"I was wondering if anyone has used the "create an album" function at Mixposure? I have 4 completed albums and working on #5 so I've been thinking about moving the respective songs into an album format instead of having them posted randomly. If anyone has done this, could you reply to this post with your thoughts? I'd also like to see how it worked on your page.  Thanks in advance!"

Lady In The Mirror

Lady In The Mirror

I had recorded this as a mono acoustic/vocal scratch track to save the idea and to help generate some production thoughts. I liked the first take so I decided to stay with my original mono acoustic/vocal track and just use it as the base to build the song around. I wrote this for the proposed "anything haunted" Mixposure song contest but that seems to have dissipated like a ghostly apparition so I'm posting it up now. I hope you like it!

Spider Monkey Love (Farrell and Kari)

Spider Monkey Love (Farrell and Kari)

This is a collaboration from 2014. Kari/Redler created the music and asked for lyric and vocal additions. The subject was to be monkeys so I wrote these simple, innocent and playful  lyric. Then found a melody to match. Since Kari's guitar work is excellent here, the instrumentation and production was kept to a minimum in the singer/songwriter style. To my ears, it works very well.

No Stranger (featuring Frank Northcutt on piano and drums)
I wrote this song in 1995 and recorded the vocals and acoustic guitar tracks in 2000. In 2014 I finished it off...yesterday ...no sense getting in a hurry, lol!
A big thank you to Frank for some fine piano and drums work.
